Purpose

The Tell Your Story scholarship will provide financial awards for continued education to Sanderson High School students, with a focus on students who have demonstrated strength and hope in the face of adversity, and those who have a passion for helping others. This scholarship is in memory of a former Sanderson teacher who was devoted to appreciating everyone’s talents and stories. She had a gift for recognizing and celebrating the good that all could offer, particularly in challenging situations. This fund aims to celebrate and recognize recipients by providing financial support to help them settle into the next step of their educational journey.

Amount & Use of Funds

$6,000

Awards will be $6,000 over two years and can cover any item under cost-of-attendance. Students may re-apply for an additional two years of funding to complete their undergraduate degree.

Criteria

In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria: 

• Minimum GPA: 2.0
• Residency Requirements: None
• High School Restrictions: Be current seniors or alumni of Sanderson High School in Wake County, NC, including the Sanderson Evening Program
• Plan of Study Restrictions: Be seeking their first associate’s or bachelor’s degree, or short-term (non-degree) credential program at community colleges
• Demonstrate financial need
• This scholarship has a preference for refugee and immigrant students.
