Purpose
This scholarship fund was created in memory of Kassel Smit whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 16. “Make a Difference” is what Kassel lived by and exemplified. The Fund is established by his parents, Kevin and Theresa and his brother Kiehl and will support scholarships for Cary High School graduates. The scholarship is awarded to individuals who have Kassel-like character traits, such as creativity, inquisition, sensitivity, generosity, a sense of humor, respect, and love.
Amount & Use of Funds
$2,500
The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under the school’s total cost of attendance. The student is responsible for all other charges. This is a non-renewable scholarship.

In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum GPA: None
- Residency Requirements: None
- High School Restrictions: Cary High School
- Plan of Study Restrictions: None
How To Obtain An Application
Eligible students may download this application and return to Kendra Romeo (kromeo@wcpss.net) from the Cary High School Guidance office. Students may also be nominated by a Cary High School teacher or staff member with the consent of the student being nominated.
