Purpose
Much of what Lea Wood carried with her in life came from a strong relationship with her mother, Florene Dickmeyer. In sponsoring the Florene Dickmeyer Memorial Scholarship, she, and her husband Larry Wood, want to express deep appreciation for the work ethic and responsibility Lea learned from her mother as she grew up in rural Indiana.
The scholarship targets those who embark on an education pathway that can be accomplished with a 2-year community college or technical degree, and who reflect the values of hard work, generosity and community. Preference will be given to single mothers, refugees and immigrants
Amount & Use of Funds
$2,500
The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under the school’s total cost of attendance. The student is responsible for all other charges. This scholarship is a one year award.
Criteria
In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
- Residency Requirements: Residents of Wake County, Durham County, Orange County, or Chatham County
- Institutional Restrictions: Applicants must attend or plan to attend Durham Technical Community College, Wake Technical Community College, or Central Carolina Community College
- Plan of Study Restrictions: Applicants must plan be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a two-year degree or technical degree program
- Preference for single mothers and students who are refugees or immigrants.

This scholarship is part of our universal online application.
