As I reflect on the past year during this season of gratitude, I am struck by the humanity and continued generosity of our fundholders. Your steadfast support of a thriving region and trust in Triangle Community Foundation, especially during these challenging times, is inspiring and humbling. Because of you, we have been able to grant nearly $20 million dollars to nonprofit organizations since the start of the calendar year. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

We are entering the end-of-year giving season, and as you begin to finalize any grants you’d like to request, or gifts you’d like to add to the fund you advise, we know you’ll have questions about deadlines for these to be recorded and mailed in 2020. Please refer to the information below as you make your plans.

Grant Requests submitted through our Donor Portal by December 6th will be mailed out to nonprofit organizations by December 31, 2020. Grant requests made after December 6th will be mailed to nonprofit organizations in January 2021. If you haven’t logged into our new Donor Portal yet, we’d be happy to walk you through it or make accommodations if needed. If you wish to make a new gift, or a gift into an existing fund, please note the additional deadlines below.

Stocks December 28th
Checks* December 31st
Online Donations December 31st
Cash December 28th
Mutual Funds December 7th

If you are interested in giving a gift of real estate, please note that due to the complex administration of these gifts, the deadline for 2020 has already passed, but we would be happy to talk to you about a gift in 2021. Please contact Robin Barefoot at robin@trianglecf.org to discuss your plans.

If you advise an endowed fund, a reminder that the spendable balance must be granted by December 31st. If you wish to make grant requests that will be sent to nonprofit organizations before December 31, 2020, please follow the grant deadlines above.

If the spendable balance is not granted, it will be reinvested when we conduct new spendable allocations in late January and post them back to December 31st. Endowed fundholders have received regular communication about this in the past; if you’re unsure if this applies to you, please contact your fund liaison.

*Our staff continues to work remotely for our safety and yours. Because of this, our office is closed, and we cannot receive gift checks in person. Checks with a postmark of December 31st or prior will be recorded in 2020 and must be mailed to: PO Box 12729 Durham, NC 27709.
