As Programs and Scholarship Associate, Julia manages specialized grant programs, scholarship funds, and designated funds. She develops relationships with our donors, students, and nonprofits to help connect them to learning opportunities and offer any assistance to grant applicants or scholarship applicants.
Julia Da Silva is a native Southerner who grew up in Alabama and Tennessee, and moved to North Carolina in 2009 to attend UNC-Chapel Hill. She worked in Seoul, South Korea as an English teacher after college and came back to UNC to earn her dual masters in social work and public administration.
Since 2010, Julia has been an advocate for survivors of sexual violence, especially those on college campuses, and has served several organizations in the Triangle region of NC. Most recently, she became President of the Board of Directors for the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. Julia uses her history of advocacy work to influence her work with scholarships, addressing student barriers through applicant support, fund policy research, and donor education.
In her free time, she loves trying new recipes, singing with the Durham Community Chorale, and playing with her fluffy pup, Bo Jangles!
Julia is a writer for our blog! Check out her thoughts here.
