About Carla
Carla serves the Foundation as Director of Donor Development. She is responsible for oversight of the Foundation’s Legacy giving program, stewarding existing fundholders, and cultivating prospective donors to help them support causes they care about, and will be developing a family philanthropy program.
Carla joined the Foundation in 2021 as Senior Development Officer, bringing more than 26 years of nonprofit fundraising experience in principal and major gift fundraising, external relations, and volunteer and board management. Most recently Carla served as the Director of the Granville Health System Foundation and before that she served as the Chief Development Officer for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Prior to these two positions, she worked in higher education development for 22 years at NC State University. Her last role there was as the Executive Director of Development for the College of Design.
Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, Carla received her B.A. degree in organizational and personal communication from Pennsylvania State University. She and her husband Bernie moved to the Triangle in 1994 from Cleveland, OH, and have lived in Apex for 26 years. Carla has two adult children, a daughter who lives and works in Atlanta and a son who is a sophomore at NC State University. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family, cheering on her Nittany Lions and the Wolfpack during football season and the Carolina Hurricanes during hockey season, traveling, and also taking advantage of the many greenway trails where she can take her rescue dog Annie for long walks.
