Fran Wescott

Executive Assistant and Office Manager

About Fran

Fran is the Foundation’s Executive and Office Assistant, responsible for a variety of office and reception duties; providing assistance to the President, CFO and Legal and Policy Advisor; as well as staffing for the Board and Foundation Leadership Council. Fran started her career with C-SPAN in Washington, DC and then returned to her native North Carolina to work in a variety of public sector roles, including service with the Department of Administration as Manager of a statewide cable TV program – OPEN/net – and with the Department of Insurance as Senior Technical Advisor for SHIIP, an information and education service to Medicare beneficiaries and their families.

Fran is especially passionate about issues of access and equity in K-12 public education. A product of Durham Public Schools, Fran graduated with honors from Bowdoin College and is proud to have served as NC Chair of the Bowdoin Alumni Schools Interviewing Committee. Fran also supports local education advocates, having served on the PR Committee of Communities in Schools of North Carolina, the Durham Council of PTAs and the Howard N Lee Institute for Equity and Opportunity in Education.

Married to Dusty Wescott and co-parent to two teenagers, Fran loves to cook for her large, loud and rowdy extended family. She finds joy from a variety of sources, but describes as a perfect moment watching the sun rise while sitting in the sands of the North Carolina coastline “crisscross-applesauce” with a dog or drowsy child and a very large mug of coffee.

If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.
